At Miller Dunwiddie, we have been providing clients with award-winning architectural solutions and unparalleled service for more than 40 years.
The Beginning
Miller Whitehead Dunwiddie Architects was founded in 1963 by Bill Miller, Foster
Dunwiddie, and Ken Whitehead. Miller and Whitehead focused on aviation projects,
doing work for Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, and other aviation-related
companies. Dunwiddie took an avid interest in the growing field of historic preservation.
In 1966, when Ken Whitehead accepted an offer to become the director of long-range
planning for United Airlines, the firm’s name was shortened to Miller Dunwiddie.
Establishing a Strong Reputation
In the late `60s, our strength in aviation projects grew steadily, and our pioneering work
in historic preservation was recognized throughout the region. Our dedication to client
needs, professional conduct, and employee development earned us a reputation as a solid,
successful firm. As a result, we began many client relationships that have lasted to this
day.
Keeping Clients Satisfied
Throughout the `70s and `80s, the 15-person firm added to its long-list of satisfied clients.
Although transportation and preservation projects were solidly established as our two
main focus areas, the team began to branch out into other projects in a variety of other
industries.
Today’s Miller Dunwiddie: Continuing a Tradition of Excellence
In 1990, Bill Miller and Foster Dunwiddie sold the firm to employees: Craig Lau and
Mark Miller. In subsequent years, John Mecum and Chuck Liddy joined the leadership
team.
The new owners continued and expanded upon Miller and Dunwiddie’s client-focused
vision and reputation for high-quality work.
To meet clients’ needs, they expanded the firm’s services to include interior design, construction services, and design visualization as well as architecture and historic preservation.
In addition, they brought the firm’s signature excellence to projects in public sector, religious,
education, housing, and healthcare. That hard work and effort paid off. In
2001, we received the AIA Minnesota Firm of the Year Award.
Today, Miller Dunwiddie includes 50 professionals with various specialties and talents –
united by the values established by our founders. We remain dedicated to looking for new
ways to improve our employee satisfaction, project work, and client service.
