Minneapolis, Minn. (May 22, 2008) – The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC), the Minneapolis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and Preserve Minneapolis have awarded Miller Dunwiddie a 2008 Heritage Preservation Award for their work on the Grace University Lutheran Church. Originally built between 1915 and 1917, this Gothic Revival style church near the University of Minnesota campus needed to expand to meet the needs of a changing congregation.

In 1997 Miller Dunwiddie was hired to prepare a comprehensive preservation and implementation strategy for the church. The multi-phased plan included defining a necessary property expansion; negotiating the purchase of land; renovating the existing nursery and community hall; upgrading HVAC systems; and creating an office, kitchen, and classroom addition. Grace University Church conducted their financial campaign, purchased the needed property, and began construction in 2004. The project finished in April of 2005.

The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of our heritage. The HPC serves as a citizen advisory body to the Minneapolis City Council, preserving historically and architecturally significant buildings, districts, and sites while allowing modifications for contemporary use.
