FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Paul, Minn. (September 18, 2004) – The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM)
has honored Miller Dunwiddie a 2004 Minnesota Preservation Award for their work on
the LaPak/Larson Site and Farmhouse in Shoreview, Minn.
Built in 1896, the classic Chaska brick farmhouse was restored as the city's Housing
Resource Center. Site improvements included the creation of a parking, removal of the
non-historic garage, and creation of an accessible walk/ramp to the building’s main entry.
Other than a small vestibule addition, the exterior house work consisted of cleaning,
repairing, and replacing original materials and features. Interior work included the
addition of a second stairway to provide a second means of egress from the second level,
alterations to the doorways and restroom to meet ADA guidelines, and repairs to the
plaster walls to maintain its historic integrity instead of replacing it with gypsum board.
PAM is the only statewide, private, non-profit organization advocating the preservation
of Minnesota's historic resources. Each year, PAM bestows preservation awards to
recognize outstanding individuals, organizations, and projects that exemplify the
Alliance's mission of preserving, protecting, and promoting Minnesota's historic
resources.
