University of Minnesota, Folwell Hall
Minneapolis, MN
The 1907 building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is part of the University of Minnesota’s Old Campus Historic District. The two year exterior restoration began by documenting and evaluating the condition of the highly decorative masonry facades. About 650 terracotta units were repaired/replaced, the terracotta roof tiles were completely replaced, all motar, was repointed, and historic brick chimneys were rebuilt.
The interior renovation is currently under construction. The overall effort will restore the historic integrity of the building by preserving the historic first level spaces and includes the installation of new energy efficient windows replicating the original wood windows. Classrooms and offices will be modernized, as well as correct code and access deficiencies, incorporate new plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and data and telecommunications systems into the facility.
