Morris, MN

Miller Dunwiddie's renovation and addition to the former Social Science Building involved the integration of the original 1920s Clarence Johnston Sr. building with the 1950s Heins & Fugelo "Cow Palace." Rededicated as John Q. Imholte Hall, the building addresses two strategic initiatives on the UMM campus: improve the undergraduate experience and preserve the University's heritage. The building is used by over 50% of the Morris students and is a key element in the capital improvement strategy. The renovation adds new technologies required by a modern classroom while preserving the historic character of both buildings. The 8,300 SF addition and 24,800 SF renovation includes an identifiable entry, new classrooms, computer lab, HVAC, auditorium, and accessibility and life safety components. This was the first project to be done that implements the design guidelines from the MDA led UMM Campus Historic Preservation Plan.
