Minneapolis, MN
Located at the east edge of Loring Park in downtown Minneapolis, the Loring Park Shelter has been an active public space for almost 100 years. Miller Dunwiddie was retained to work on a new type of park facility that concentrates on arts rather than athletics. An addition was also designed that fit within the park’s master plan guidelines. Our design maximizes views into the park from the surrounding neighborhood, creates a front door to welcome people into the park, and complements the existing Spanish-style park building.
In 2003, a Phase 1 renovation was completed to restore the building architecturally and programmatically as an open, inviting, public space. The Phase 2 addition will proceed when funded.
