Eden Prairie, MN
Miller Dunwiddie worked with the City of Eden Prairie to determine ways the historic Riley-Jacques Farm could be reused and enjoyed by visitors. The design turned the barn into a seasonal use facility that integrates it with the surrounding park's more typical suburban amenities. Dances, youth programs, concerts, and receptions are accommodated by the renovated facility during the summer. In the winter the barn becomes a warming house for ice skating. A small addition allows for an accessible toilet and code required egress from the upper level. The barnyard maintains its historic character while providing for needed parking, accessible walkways and open areas for outdoor activities. All work was done in the spirit of asking, "How would the farmer have done this?"
