Silverwood Park Visitor Center
St. Anthony, MN
Miller Dunwiddie designed a new Visitor Center to serve the park patrons and staff. The Visitor Center houses exhibit and lounge space, a 250 seat banquet hall large hall for both educational programs and private rentals, restrooms and concessions, and staff offices.
The Visitor Center was designed to meet the Minnesota Sustainable Design Guide requirements (B3). Sustainable design strategies include a geo-thermal heating and cooling system, significant daylighting and sun control elements, high-performance envelope design, and materials selected for both sustainability and indoor air quality criteria, including recycled roofing shingles and interior wood trim that was milled from trees removed from the site for building and trail construction. Rainwater from the Visitor Center roof is captured, stored in an underground cistern and used for irrigation.
