Minneapolis, MN

The historic men’s and women’s toilet buildings at Lake Harriet were built in 1892. By the summer of 1995, the buildings began to fall into disrepair. An ad hoc neighborhood citizen group was formed to assist the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Department in a renovation project lovingly titled, “Spiff the Biff.”

Volunteers from Miller Dunwiddie completed design and construction documents for the work. We also provided construction management services. Enough funds were raised by the summer of 1999 to restore the exterior of the women’s restroom. Site work, exterior painting, and construction in the interior of the women’s building were done during the spring and summer of 2002. Park Board maintenance staff restored the exterior of the men’s restroom during the summer of 2000. The men’s building continues to be used for Park Board maintenance purposes.
