St. Paul, MN
In 1983, Miller Dunwiddie was retained to prepare a preservation and planning study
analyzing the public and ceremonial areas of the Minnesota’s State Capitol building. The
completed study established guidelines for ongoing restoration.
During the past 25 years, Miller Dunwiddie has implemented the phased restoration
including the senate chamber and senate offices, house chamber, exterior masonry
restoration, roof restoration, and major repairs to the dome and lantern. In addition,
Miller Dunwiddie designed the restoration of the building’s Rathskeller to its original
grandeur and added a new full-service kitchen and servery under the north entry stair.
The project involved complicated construction and reconstruction of the plaza.
