In 1991, Miller Dunwiddie was retained to prepare a comprehensive long-range
improvement plan for restoring, maintaining, and improving the Basilica of Saint Mary in
Minneapolis, MN. The initial work corrected hazardous structural conditions and
replaced the entire copper roof and dome. Since then, additional work has included repair
and tuckpointing of the stone walls; restoration of the stained glass and storm windows; a
renovation of the undercroft that included accessibility upgrades, restrooms, a chapel,
meeting rooms; and an assembly hall capable of seating 500 for dinner.
Today Miller Dunwiddie serves on the Basilica’s facilities assessment committee. Each
year, the committee reviews the condition of the church, rectory, Cowley Center office
building, and school – establishing short- and long-range capital funding needs, priorities,
and budgets.
